After taking an art appreciation class in college, my passion for painting was awakened and it's been a part of my life ever since. I was born in San Antonio, Texas and I now reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I studied at the Wilson School of Art for several years, where I honed my abilities to sketch and paint. I am self-taught in many areas, but I have also studied with master artists, such as Sterling Edwards and Birgit O'Connor.
I love the process of creation and expression through paints, canvas, and brushes. The first medium I worked with was oil paint, but motherhood led me to experiment with many other mediums. Over more than 20 years of practice, I have learned to create both abstract and realistic pieces in acrylics, oils, inks, pencil and much more, but watercolor is what I have come to love and enjoy the most. I'm always looking to expand my horizons, so I've recently been using alcohol inks, an exciting medium that results in vibrant, free-flowing creations.
I believe that we hang artwork in our homes because it stirs our emotions, sparks our memories, and brings life to every room. Art is a daily reminder of the thing we love. I hope that my work will bring a smile, a feeling, or a memory as you view it in your home!

raquel baiza - artist
This is the online portfolio for Raquel Baiza, Colorado Springs based artist. With a hope to translate the beauty of the world to paper and canvas, she pursues new and creative ways to express color, texture, and meaning. It is in art that we get to translate what we see and what we would like to see into reality. Her world travels and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains continue to inspire her passion for painting. Her hope is that everyone will see the beauty of the world through her creations. More of her work can be seen in Gallery 113, located in downtown Colorado Springs.
